Grandmother's Christmas story a true Quechan Indian story
The Quenchan Indians of southern California have a strong oral tradition. In this story, Grandmother remembers a very special Christmas. Bluecoat soldiers arrived in Quenchan country on Christmas Eve, 1851. Tired of white settlers moving across their lands, the Quechans decided to fight. On Christmas morning, Indian warriors surrounded the soldiers and moved forward to attack. Grandmother relates what happened next in her true tale of Christmas in Indian country.
