局外人 Outsider
In his novels, plays, essays, and treatises, Camus profoundly revealed the loneliness of man in an alien world, his increasing alienation from himself, and the inevitability of sin and death. Yet, while exposing the absurdity of the world, he remained neither hopeless nor dejected. He advocated for resistance amidst absurdity and for upholding truth and justice amidst despair. He pointed the way to a liberal humanist path beyond Christianity and Marxism. His courage in facing the bleakness of life and his fearless spirit of "knowing it was impossible but still doing it" made him, after World War II, the spokesperson for his generation and a spiritual mentor to the next, not only in France, but also in Europe and ultimately throughout the world.
