"To Live," a representative work by contemporary writer Yu Hua, recounts a life traversed by the vicissitudes of life and the hardships it endures, encapsulating the social transformations of China over the past half century. "To Live" also explores the breadth and richness of tears; the nonexistence of despair; and the importance of living for its own sake, not for anything else.
