This essay will answer the question, “How are female protagonists represented in Disney classic animated movies as compared to their modern remake?” Utilizing the theories of critical discourse analysis and multi modality as the lens through which I conduct this research, this essay examines the way in which the two sets of films, Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Alice in Wonderland (2010), as well as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937) and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), represent their respective female protagonists in terms of power, position, characteristics, as realized by its linguistic and visual aspects.
