Sing to the dawn was written by Minfong HO. Her other books include Rice without rain, The clay marble and Maples in the mist.

Most of the author's childhood was spent in Thailand, and this has a good part in the setting of this story which was originally published as a short story and awarded first prize by the Council of interracial books for children in New York in 1975.
