How effective has the education smart cards been in keeping the low-income students in school and helping increase families' living standard?
This essay examines education as a form of market failure and how the Indonesian government attempts to solve the issue through the distribution of Education Smart Cards. The government has implemented Education Smart Cards, which has been distributed since 2012. This Education Smart Card subsidizes school materials to be made more affordable for students. It has been almost 3 years since the implementation of these cards and there are rising issues on the efficacy of the cards.
