After her father's death in Belfast, Josie, 17, and her mother are given a roof over their heads by relatives in England - but their new "refuge" turns out to be near a nuclear power station, soon to become operative. Josie, a fighter, and her friends are determined to oppose it - first by mere flyposting, then by peaceful demonstration - and finally by serving a prison sentence.
